This year was proclaimed by the Catholic Church as an Extraordinary “Year of Mercy”. And so as the Bicolanos celebrate the feast of their patroness, “Our Lady of Peñafrancia,” whom they fondly call as “Ina”, they highlight this very crucial theme expressed by the Pope as the Lord’s most powerful message especially in this generation where people have become hardened by sin and skepticism for compassion.
With this, IPI joined the pilgrim city in their reflection and their expression of tender devotion for the Blessed Mother, who have since embraced them with the same message through her motherly care for the sinners, the poor, the sick, the elderly, the disabled, and the children. Because of this, Bicolanos who have her as their patroness, got the strength to fly to the Lord with confidence.
And so with the year’s theme in mind, IPI created a float portraying the real essence of the festivity not just in celebration, but also in spirit which was materialized by putting an enormous image of the Blessed Mother at the center of the float. Other articles of the faith and meaningful cultural symbolisms were placed behind which drew both Bicolanos and pilgrims to a deeper love for the miraculous Lady who inspires the spirit of harmony in heart and in action which in turn yields a peaceful place to live in which is what Bicol is for many years under her protection.
The perfect representation of the faith, the stunning familiarity of the culture, and the most accurate portrayal of the festival’s theme was what made way for IPI’s win for the 1st place in the float competition. It was all too synced with the company’s mission anyway which was shouted by Efficascent Oil’s banner, “Tradisyong Pilipino, Tradisyon ng Pagmamahal.”
